Donna (Tjorlian) Williams
Donna Williams, known by her Traditional name Tjorlian, has dedicated over fifty years to her artistic journey. Her passion for painting began in her teenage years, where she created artworks on sliced wood to raise funds for the Marribank family farm. This early engagement laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to the arts.
Donna’s work is strongly influenced by the Carrolup painting style, which originated in the 1940s at the Carrolup Mission. This style emerged from children who adapted Western landscape techniques to their own cultural perspectives. Today, Donna continues this legacy by incorporating a variety of images and techniques in her diverse practice, echoing those child artists of the past. Her paintings are often inspired by memories of her Boodja, celebrating the enduring spirit and traditions of her people.
