Baranga Maditjil - Totem Magic



Baranga Maditjil is an Aboriginal-controlled online and physical gallery dedicated to showcasing, promoting and supporting grassroots Noongar artists. An initiative of Gorenang Moortabiin™ Aboriginal Corporation, Baranga Maditjil provides a professional, culturally safe platform for emerging, established and Elder artists to exhibit and sell their work, strengthen their creative practice and connect with audiences across Australia and internationally.

Baranga Maditjil is grounded in the living culture, stories and landscapes of Noongar Boodja. Our artists bring distinctive styles and deeply personal perspectives shaped by their connections to Country, family, community and cultural identity. Many of our artists are landscape painters whose works capture the character and spirit of the Great Southern, from its coastline, waterways and granite formations to its bushlands, farmland, wildflowers and changing skies. Their paintings are often influenced by personal memories, places of cultural significance, and the colours and rhythms of the six Noongar seasons. These landscapes are not simply representations of place. They express an enduring relationship with Boodja and the cultural, emotional and spiritual connections carried by our artists. Some artists paint from memory, returning through their work to the Country, people and experiences that have shaped their lives. Each artist brings an individual approach to colour, texture, form and storytelling. Together, these perspectives create a distinctive body of contemporary work that is highly original while remaining deeply connected to culture, identity and place.
